Poacher Blockbuster

2007 Poacher Champion Andrew Appleton and the spectacular Joe Screen, are the first World Elite signings for the award-winning International Lincolnshire Poacher Longtrack on Sunday 24 August 2008.

Appleton clinched his first Poacher title with a memorable display, including a thrilling high-speed move to pass Screen in the final. He is now going all out for a back to back victory in 2008 to emulate 4 times World Champion Robert Barth who achieved a Poacher double in 2005 and 2006.

“The Poacher is one of the highlights of any season and one of my top priorities for 2008” said Appleton. “With Screeny and all the other world stars that Reg (Blackbourn) is signing up its going to be tough – but I’m going to have a real go.”

The Wainfleet club recently won the ACU award for the best meeting in the UK and promoter Blackbourn is determined to raise the standard even higher in 2008. “We have built the Poacher up to be one of the top meetings anywhere in the world and its great that top riders like Andrew and Joe want to be part of it” said Blackbourn. “Once again we will have an awesome line-up of World Elite riders and Sidecars battling on our superfast 1,000 metre circuit which is in superb condition following remedial work in the Autumn”.

A first for 2008 will be the ‘Poacher Bahnrecord’ with the fastest solos and sidecar teams going flat out for the flying lap record and major cash prizes. Blackbourn and his team are also looking to build on last year’s successful off-track entertainment. An added attraction by popular request will be ‘meet the rider’s night’ on Saturday evening, including rider presentations and interviews on stage, along with live entertainment from comedian Sid Dennis and vocalist Sam Sillett who return by public demand. Throw in the superb, free camping facilities at trackside, including hot showers, the attractions of Skegness just 4 miles away and the Poacher Bank Holiday weekend once again promises to be a blockbuster.
